New Book Asks: Are Martial Arts Schools Really Teaching Self-
Defense?

Stafford, Virginia January 27, 2009: Kevin Brett Studios, Incorporated releases The Way of the
Martial Artist: Achieving Success in Martial Arts and in Life! (240 pp., $16.00, ISBN-13: 978-
0981935003), a new book that helps readers understand if their martial arts training will actually
work in a self-defense situation and what is likely lacking in their training. Certified Martial Arts
Instructor Kevin Brett answers this question and many more in his new book.

Martial arts are about survival and this book teaches readers how to develop the skill, strategy
and character of a true martial artist to supplement their dojo training. It also provides in-depth
insight into just what students and parents want from martial arts: discipline, commitment, honor,
respect, perseverance and ultimately – success in any life-undertaking. Kevin Brett provides
answers and insights to questions that all martial artists ask during their quest for excellence,
purpose and enlightenment.

The Way of the Martial Artist: Achieving Success in Martial Arts and in Life! uses the principles of
martial arts to show readers how any worthwhile goal or life challenge can be approached and
achieved with black belt determination. The servant-warrior is an ancient concept that the author
re-introduces to help modern readers understand how any success should be a service or benefit
to others.

Shawn Kovacich, author of the highly acclaimed book series Achieving Kicking Excellence and
high-ranking martial artist, calls The Way of the Martial Artist, "A comprehensive framework of the
numerous principles and concepts you will need to become the best martial artist that you can
be."  Black belt Richard Hefner says, “The Way of the Martial Artist is part success manual, part
martial arts guide and part survival guide, and all essential!”

Kevin Brett Studios, Inc., releases driving safety DVD “The Art of
Intelligent Driving”

Kevin Brett Studios, Incorporated - Stafford, Virginia is releasing its first commercial DVD for
national distribution.  The Art of Intelligent Driving is an instructional DVD that provides drivers of
all ages and experience levels with carefully structured technical grounding in the principles and
mechanics of how an automobile responds to driver inputs and how to improve the quality of these
inputs to your car’s controls to increase driving skill.

This video provides drivers with an overview of the mechanics of an automobile and its controls
combined with basic physics and effective driving strategies to allow a better informed driver
understand how to control and maneuver their car in normal and abnormal situations. The DVD
teaches safe driving techniques rather than focusing on the usual Driver’s Education approach of
simply reciting the “rules of the road” and the location of the pedals. The Art of Intelligent Driving
dispels common myths about driving; many of which are often taught in Driver’s Ed classes.

“There is a lot that should go into driver training to make all of us safer drivers and reduce
accidents.  Unfortunately, after the typical driver training classes we go out on the road and learn
through trial and error  – and sometimes with fatal results.  There is simply too much knowledge
about handling a car that drivers are never taught.  Consequently most of us drive around
thinking that we’re safe – until something unexpected happens and we’re immediately forced
outside of our comfort zone.  All of us need to know more about how to be a safer, more intelligent
driver.”
– Jonathan Kinberg, host of The Art of Intelligent Driving

The Art of Intelligent Driving features Jonathan Kinberg an experienced race driver and graduate
of the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving TM.  The DVD is available at http://www.
KevinBrettStudios.com or at Amazon.com   It can also be purchased directly through Amazon.
com.

“This video is a culmination of more than two decades of study, training and race experience that
has been distilled into street legal, safe and simple techniques and strategies that I want my kids
to learn when it’s time for them to drive.”
– Kevin Brett founder and CEO, Kevin Brett Studios, Incorporated

New novel, "Jack: The Christmas Collie", continues nearly 100
years of Collie adventures

This Christmas, the Barnes family will receive a gift; a gift that will teach them about life … about
sacrifice and about giving. “Jack: The Christmas Collie” is a new family novel, based on a true
story, available from http://www.KevinBrettStudios.com this 2009 holiday season.

Sometimes the perfect Christmas gift has a few perfect flaws

In this new novel based on a true story, Kevin Brett recreates the child-like enchantment and
romance of the Collie stories of old with this delightful tale of a family and their Collie. One
Christmas, Keith and Linda Barnes bring home a beautiful tri-color Collie. He is the perfect
Christmas gift, or so they think, when the Barnes family finds themselves faced with a fateful
decision. The Barnes will discover the gift that each of us carries inside, as they learn that life is
not as perfect as our dreams, but sometimes our dreams may come true in ways we might not
ever imagine.

In the tradition of classic Collie adventures, “Jack: The Christmas Collie” introduces a whole new
generation of readers to the majestic Collie and helps them discover this heroic, loyal, protective
and noble breed, as Jack gives us a fresh take on our favorite breed of sheep dog. Jack's ancient
wolf instincts serve him well, as he becomes the perfect addition to the Barnes family. In true Collie
tradition, Jack saves the day numerous times and protects his new family. Jack rollicks and romps
his way through the Barnes's home and their lives, changing all of them in ways they had never
expected.

There is something compelling about the Collie that draws us to this breed unlike any other. They
have instinct and intelligence that is superior to all other dogs. Inimitable, lovable, heroic,
mischievous, majestic; yes, the Collie is making a comeback to the American landscape and pop
culture. Captain Jack is a tri-color Collie with a penchant for mischief and more than a few lovable
personality quirks.
